LVT Flooring Installation in Twickenham – Polyflor Camaro Rigid Core Oak

EXEN Flooring recently completed a 16 m² LVT flooring installation in Twickenham, Richmond upon Thames, transforming a child’s study room by replacing the old carpet with Polyflor Camaro Rigid Core LVT in an oak design.

Although this was only a 16 m² room, the installation presented an unusual challenge. The second-floor room was fully furnished, with a large bunk bed occupying almost half of the floor and a large wardrobe that could not easily be removed.

Rather than making the customer completely empty the room, our team carefully planned the installation in stages, moving the furniture from one side to the other as the new flooring was installed.

The complete project — including carpet uplift, checking and preparing the existing hardwood subfloor, installing the new LVT, repositioning the furniture and fitting the finishing beading — was completed within one working day.

Project Details

Location: Twickenham, Richmond upon Thames, London
Property: Residential home
Room: Child’s study/bedroom – second floor
Floor area: Approximately 16 m²
Existing flooring: Carpet
Subfloor: Hardwood – existing surface was smooth and in good condition
New flooring: Polyflor Camaro Rigid Core LVT
Design: Oak
Services: Carpet uplift, subfloor inspection and preparation, LVT installation and beading
Main challenge: Large bunk bed, wardrobe and furniture remaining inside the room
Project duration: One working day
Installation: EXEN Flooring

Choosing the LVT Flooring Remotely

The customer initially contacted EXEN Flooring about replacing the old carpet in their child’s study room.

As they already had the room measurements, they were able to send the dimensions to us remotely. The room was approximately 16 m², allowing us to calculate the amount of flooring required without an initial site visit.

We then sent the customer our available LVT options so they could choose a colour and design that suited the room.

They selected Polyflor Camaro Rigid Core in an oak design, which provides the appearance of a natural wood floor with the practical advantages of modern LVT.

Once the flooring was selected, we calculated the required quantity and placed the material order. After the LVT arrived, we contacted the customer and arranged the installation date.

Removing the Old Carpet and Checking the Subfloor

On the day of installation, our first job was to create enough working space.

The room contained a large bunk bed occupying almost half of the available floor area, as well as a large wardrobe and other furniture.

We carefully moved the accessible furniture to one side and began uplifting the existing carpet.

Underneath, we found an existing hardwood subfloor. The surface was smooth and in good condition, so extensive floor levelling was not required. We checked the accessible areas carefully before proceeding with the new flooring.

Subfloor condition is an important part of any LVT installation. Even when the existing floor appears suitable, it should be checked before the new flooring is laid.

Installing Polyflor Camaro Rigid Core Around the Furniture

The main challenge was not the size of the room but how to install the flooring while keeping the large furniture inside.

Instead of trying to move the bunk bed and wardrobe out of the room, we divided the installation into stages.

We first uplifted the carpet and installed the Polyflor Camaro Rigid Core LVT across the accessible side of the room.

Once enough of the new floor had been completed, the furniture was carefully moved onto the finished section.

This gave us access to the opposite side of the room.

We then uplifted the remaining carpet, checked the hardwood subfloor and continued the LVT installation until the entire 16 m² room was completed.

This staged approach allowed us to work around a very large bunk bed and wardrobe without compromising the quality of the installation.

Finishing the Room with Beading

After the LVT installation was completed, we carefully repositioned all of the furniture according to the customer’s instructions.

The final stage was fitting beading around the perimeter of the room, creating a clean and professional finish between the new floor and the existing skirting.

The oak appearance of the Polyflor Camaro Rigid Core completely changed the character of the room, replacing the old carpet with a cleaner and more contemporary wood-effect floor.

Despite the restricted working space and the amount of furniture, the entire 16 m² carpet-to-LVT transformation was completed in one working day.

Most importantly, the customer was very pleased with the finished result.

Why This Small Twickenham Project Required Careful Planning

Flooring projects do not have to be large to be challenging.

In an empty 16 m² room, replacing carpet with LVT can be relatively straightforward when the existing subfloor is suitable.

This Twickenham project was different because a large bunk bed occupied almost half of the room and there was also a substantial wardrobe.

Careful sequencing therefore became an important part of the installation.

By working section by section, we were able to:

  • uplift the existing carpet;

  • inspect the hardwood subfloor;

  • install the Polyflor Camaro Rigid Core LVT;

  • work around the large furniture;

  • reposition everything after installation; and

  • complete the perimeter with beading.

The complete project was still finished within one working day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you install LVT in a furnished room?

In many cases, yes. It depends on the amount and size of the furniture and the flooring system being installed. During this Twickenham project, a large bunk bed and wardrobe remained inside the room. We divided the 16 m² floor into sections and carefully moved the furniture as the installation progressed.

Can you replace bedroom carpet with LVT?

Yes. Carpet can be uplifted and replaced with LVT, provided the subfloor underneath is suitable or can be properly prepared. In this project, after removing the carpet we found a smooth hardwood subfloor that was suitable for the planned installation after inspection and preparation.

Do you always need screed before installing LVT?

No. The required preparation depends on the existing subfloor and the type of LVT being installed. Some floors require considerably more preparation, while others may already provide a suitable surface. We assess the condition of the subfloor before deciding what preparation is necessary.

How long does it take to install LVT in a bedroom?

It depends on the room size, subfloor condition, furniture and installation system. This Twickenham project covered approximately 16 m² and included carpet uplift, subfloor checks, LVT installation, moving and repositioning furniture and fitting beading. We completed the project within one working day.

Do you supply and install Polyflor LVT in Twickenham?

Yes. EXEN Flooring can supply and install LVT flooring, including Polyflor products, for residential and commercial projects in Twickenham, Richmond upon Thames and other areas of London.

Can I get an LVT quotation using measurements and photographs?

For many straightforward projects, customers can send us room measurements, photographs of the existing floor and details of the flooring they are considering. We can use this information for an initial assessment and quotation. Where the subfloor condition or installation requirements cannot be established remotely, a site assessment may still be recommended.
