Jute Stair Runner Installation in Minford Gardens, Hammersmith and Fulham

EXEN Flooring recently completed a jute stair runner installation for a residential home in Minford Gardens, within the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.

The customer was redesigning their home and wanted a natural jute runner with a contrasting black taped edge. We supplied the chosen Alternative Flooring jute carpet, measured the staircase and created custom templates for the three winder steps before completing the installation.

The finished runner added natural texture and a defined black border to the staircase, creating a smart and individual feature within the home.

Measuring a Staircase with Winder Steps

Before work began, our team visited the property to survey the staircase and take accurate measurements.

The staircase included 11 straight steps and three winders. Winder steps change direction and are wider on one side than the other, so each one requires an individual template. Accurate measuring at this stage is essential for producing a runner that follows the staircase neatly.

Creating Templates for the Jute Runner

After measuring the stairs, we created templates for the three winders. These templates allowed us to transfer the precise shape of each step onto the jute carpet before cutting.

Careful templating is especially important for a stair runner because it helps keep the runner centred and consistent as it moves around the turn in the staircase.

Cutting and Finishing the Runner

Once the templates were complete, we prepared the runner in our workshop using the selected Alternative Flooring jute carpet.

We cut the carpet to suit the straight steps and the three winder sections. The edges were then finished with black tape, creating a strong visual border around the natural jute runner.

The black taped edging gave the runner a clean, defined finish and complemented the customer’s redesigned interior.

Installing the Jute Stair Runner

On the second day, our team returned to Minford Gardens to install the finished runner.

Each section was fitted carefully to ensure that the runner remained centred across the straight stairs and sat correctly on the winder steps. The detailed measuring, templates and workshop preparation allowed us to achieve a neat and consistent result.

The completed jute stair runner transformed the staircase with natural texture, contrast and a professionally finished edge detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can jute carpet be used for a stair runner?

Jute can create a natural and distinctive stair runner. As it is a softer natural fibre, it may show flattening and wear more quickly than wool or sisal on heavily used stairs. We can advise on the most suitable option for your staircase and lifestyle.

What are winder stairs?

Winder stairs are steps that change direction. They are wider on one side than the other and require careful measuring when fitting a stair runner.

Why are templates needed for winder stair runners?

Each winder step has a different shape. Templates help ensure the runner is cut accurately and sits neatly around the turn in the staircase.

What is taped edging on a stair runner?

Taped edging is a fabric border applied around the edge of a stair runner. It creates a neat finish and can add contrast, such as the black edge used in this Minford Gardens project.
